"Palouse Rainbow"

About This Image After photographing during the late afternoon on top of Steptoe Butte, the sky became almost completely overcast and the light was almost gone. I packed up my gear to head down the butte and in those few moments, the setting sun started to peak out of the low strips of clouds just above the horizon. Dusk can be magical photographically. The dim light requires a long exposure and when there's a slightly hazy atmosphere, the scene can become more intensely colored and yet have a softer texture. This is a photographic quality I really like because it looks somewhat painterly. I'm glad I didn't leave earlier!
